James Edward Whitt was born on Friday, June 14, 1946, in Benham, KY as the sixth child of Frank and Ruth Whitt. He attended school at Roosevelt High in Gary, IN before ultimately graduating from Cumberland High School in Cumberland, Ky. After graduation, James relocated to Northwest Indiana where he was employed at Inland Steel.
During his life, James enjoyed basketball, music, traveling and cars, but these hobbies never came close to how much he loved quality time with his family.
After working to cultivate a loving relationship with Jehovah, James was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on June 8, 2014.
Sadly, on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, James fell asleep in death at the age of 76.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Whitt and father, Frank Whitt. James was also preceded in death by his brothers: Nathaniel Whitt, Joseph Whitt, Aubrey Whitt and his sisters: Ida Raines, Queen Handy, and Sophenia Whitt.
James leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Derrek (Waushara) Holland of Merrillville, IN and Torrence (Syreeta) Warner of East Chicago, IN.
He had four grandchildren: Sierra (Davon) Taylor, Joi Holland, Jelani Warner and Jordyn Warner.
He had seven great grandchildren: Davon Taylor, Daniel Thompson, Jr., Kayla Taylor, Karter Taylor, Kavion Taylor, Karson Barber, with one more on the way.
James also leaves to cherish his memory his brothers: Franklin (Julia) Whitt of Lexington, KY, Jesse (Doris) Whitt of Middlesboro, KY, Curtis (Sharon Kay) Whitt of Frisco, TX, William (Easter) Whitt of Gary, IN, Reuben (Maxine) Whitt of Memphis, TN, Ravern Whitt of Gary, IN, Orrin (Linda) Whitt of Litchfield Park, AZ, Ocie (LaTanya) Whitt of Merrillville, IN, along with his sisters: Delores Brown of Portage, IN and Linda (Hardy) Shaw of Gary, IN, and sisters in law: Mildred Whitt of Maywood, IL, Inez Whitt of Chicago, IL, and Diana Whitt of Gary, IN. He also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
