Carmel E. Mabon

12/28/1959 — 12/14/2022

Carmel Elizabeth Mabon was born to the late Willie D. and Minnie Lois Jenkins on December 28, 1959, in Gary, Indiana.  She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, class of 1978.  Carmel was united in marriage on May 22, 1998 to her loving and devoted husband, James E. Mabon.  She was employed as a steel worker at U.S. Steel for 20 years.

Carmel was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on September 5, 1999.  Anyone in Carmel’s presence knew that she loved Jehovah, she loved her husband (affectionately calling him “her best friend”), and she loved the “Friends”.  Her love for the ministry motivated her to Regular Pioneer for 12 years and 3 months. No matter what challenges she was going through, she expended herself by being available to encourage and support her brothers and sisters in various avenues of the ministry, such as evening witnessing via zoom.

Carmel was also involved in other privileges of service including Special Metropolitan Witnessing and the LDC (Local Design/Construction), where for 7 years, she enjoyed learning new skills.

Sadly, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, Carmel passed away.  She is preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories, her husband of 24 years, James E. Mabon; 2 stepdaughters, Ebony Clecker and Jamie Mabon; 1 brother, William Clyde (Fredonia) Jenkins; 5 sisters-in-law, Ernestine Hampton, Joyce (Richard) Sanders, Claudiette Mabon, Beverly Brown and Tracey (Albert) Castro; 2 brothers-in-law, Maurice (Cheryl) Mabon and William (Cassandra) Mabon; 11 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

We look forward to welcoming Carmel back anticipating her fashionably coordinated and accessorized outfits, seeing her beautiful smile, and hearing her hearty laughter once again.  We are confident that the time is ever so near before she is awakened from her brief sleep.

Auntie Carmel will be missed. She was a beautiful person. I always admired her sense of style, upbeat personality and smile that instantly lit up the room. She fit right in with our family. I'm praying for my Uncle James' strength and thankful for the time we had with Auntie Carmel.

Carmel & I met each other in 2014 when we worked together on the Gibson’s 60th wedding anniversary. She helped with the flower arrangements. Love of decorating drew us together. It was such a shock hearing that she had passed away. So sorry James for the loss of you dear wife. May Jehovah & the comfort you receive from the scriptures carry you until you see her again soon.
