Sarah Thomas was born November 26, 1950 to Ruby Lee and WD Williams in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was the 11th of their 12 children. Sarah received her education from the Tuscaloosa School System. She was a cheerleader and played on the softball team, graduating from Riverside High School in 1969.

Shortly after graduation, Sarah moved to Gary Indiana, where she met her husband Melvin James Thomas. They were married on December 31, 1970. To this union, 3 children were born: Erica Arnette, Dashuna Kenyatte and Melvin James II.

Sarah became acquainted with Jehovah's Witnesses in 1979 where her love for Jehovah grew to the point of baptism on April 12,1983. Sarah went on to be a full-time servant (pioneer) of Jehovah from 1996 until her death. At the time of her death, she was a dearly loved member of the Speedway congregation.

Sarah relocated from Gary Indiana to Indianapolis Indiana at the time of the birth of her first granddaughter in 1999. Sarah remained in Indianapolis until her death.

Sarah was a very kind and loving yet feisty woman. She loved to talk to people and to be with people. She would share Kingdom truths with anyone who would listen. She never met a stranger. Sarah also learned ASL and served in the sign language congregation for over 10 years. She had a passion for helping people to get to know Jehovah and had many opportunities to do so. She also had the opportunity to serve where the need is great in Guyana for 3 months.

Another one of Sarah's passions was traveling the world. She referred to herself as a "World Traveler". She experienced several international conventions across Europe as well as traveling with her family and she never missed an opportunity to go to her favorite spot, New York City. Her other hobbies included playing cards, going to the dollar store and watching tennis.

Sarah fell asleep in death June 10, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother Ruby Lee, father WD Williams, husband Melvin James Thomas, daughter Erica Arnette Thomas, sisters Annie Jones, Oper Jean Cooper brothers John Miller, Early Williams, Willie George Williams, Eddie Williams and Willie Frank Williams.

I first met Sarah 41 years ago when I was 12 years old. I joined my Aunt Rita’s dance troupe of which Sarah was already a part. She didn’t “play” but always had a warm smile. She was fun to be around and always showed personal interest in me. Can’t wait for the family reunion with lost of dancing!

Sarah was a wonderful person and friend and sister in the faith. I recall when she first began studying the Bible with Rita. She certainly had a thirst for truth then and she maintained it to the end. I so look forward to seeing her again in paradise when no one will say “I am sick”. What a joy that will be. Much love to Dashuna and Melvin Jr who were great in their loving and care to her as she was to them. Sarah is already dearly missed. Sheila James

I remember first meeting her through Angie as I moved to Indy to continue learning about Jehovah. She let me call her grandma and she’s been like that to me ever since. I’m so grateful for all of the good memories that I have with her and saddened she is gone. Her love of tennis and the dollar store are unforgettable. Can’t wait to see you again in paradise. ???
