— To Remember —

Benita Washington

9/18/1961 — 6/23/2025

Benita Washington was born on September 18, 1961 to the late Earl Sr. and Alberta Washington. She was the 5th out of 6 children. Proceeding in death after her parents were brothers Earl Jr. and Harold Washington. She attended Gary Schools graduating from Horace Mann High School in 1980.

Benita loved life, she loved her ministry and she had a deep love for Jehovah God. Benita symbolized her dedication to Jehovah God on April 16, 1983. She attended Midtown, English Highland, the Highland Greek Group and finally, Central Park Congregations. Though she was the youngest sister in family, she was a Big Sister to many in the congregation. Benita had a quiet and discreet demeanor that endeared her to those confiding in her. She loved to travel whether it was taking her family to visit her brother in college, trips to Bethel or internationally. She was privileged to attend International Conventions in Hawaii and Rome. A “Modern Day Tabitha”, she would do anything for her family and friends without hesitation or being asked. Often times, her support was provided anonymously. Benita would take advantage of opportunities to auxiliary pioneer when she could. She even stepped over into Macedonia and joined the Greek Group when the opportunity presented itself.

Benita was a hard worker holding various positions for the City of Gary, State Office of Indiana and last the federal office for OPM U.S. Office of Personnel Management in Chicago, IL as a paralegal secretary. Oh, how many days and years she got up early to catch the South Shore train for work leaving home at 4:30 a.m. every morning. She kept that routine along with her ministry until she began having health issues. This forced her to retire early at the age of 59.

Benita fell asleep on Monday, June 23, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory 2 sisters: Deborah Gray of Gary, IN and Gwendolyn Walker of Merrillville, IN; one brother: Brad (Gerri) Washington of Kansas City, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Ann Washington of Gary, IN and many nieces and nephews, cousins and spiritually family and friends.

So affectionally we say goodnight until Jehovah gives the command saying, “Wake Up” and enjoy the life to a brand new world of many good things to come.

Sending my love to the family. I have soo many fond memories growing up and having the opportunity to know my elder cousins , the Washingtons which was everything. I am happy to have been able to have family memories with Big cousin Benita and the Washingtons. Family will always be in my heart and prayers.

My dear friend and sister. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your sister(Benita) I know this is going to be heavy on your mind and an empty feeling in your heart. Pain and sorrow is something that Jehovah God didn't plan for his precious ones to experience. Out of love, he provides a redeemer to take away those painful moments. Every day, when your tears become so overwhelming, remember Jehovah arms are wrapped around you to give you comfort and soothe your pain. He knows how many tear drops have fallen from your tearful eyes and the sadness you feel from deep inside. He promised that for every tear shed and pain that you feel, he would replace them with his love .In the future, death and sorrow will be no more. Benita is resting. One day soon, Jesus will call, and she will answer. Before you realize it, she will wake up with a big smile on her face as if nothing ever happens. I can see you welcoming her back with tears of joy. My ears are always ready to listen. - Linda McLaurin
