William Chase

02/02/1948 — 09/24/2021

WILLIAM CHASE was born February 2, 1948, to John and Luecoster Chase, in Pritchard, Alabama.  William was the eldest of 12 children.  In 1953 when he was 5 years old, the family moved to the East Chicago, IN area.  The Chase family then relocated to Hammond, IN in 1955 when William was 7 years old, and he lived the duration of his life in Hammond, IN.

William attended Maywood Elementary School and later Hammond Tech.  He was a tri-athlete as he excelled and held many titles for many years in Football, Track (and his love) Basketball, which he played often with his sons and many friends.  While he loved basketball, he discovered a greater love, Carolyn Cunningham. William later graduated from Hammond Tech in 1966.  The on August 3, 1968, he married Carolyn, the love of his life.   To their union, 7 children were born each with unique personalities and relationships with their dad.

In 1968, William went into the Armed Services, serving in the Vietnam War.  It was there that he made a vow to Jehovah that if he got him out alive, he would serve HIM for the rest of his life.  When he returned home, he began to study the bible.  On July 8, 1972, William and Carolyn were both baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses at Hawthorne Racetrack.

Mentor, Leader, and one of the nicest men you ever knew”, by the many who knew and loved him. The ultimate description as an “Awesome Husband, Father, Granddad and Provider” comes from his wife, children and grandchildren.  All these qualities he developed as a man and most of all as a servant of Jehovah.  William worked and retired from BP Amoco.  He later also worked and retired from Safety-Kleen.

William Chase and family attended the Woodmar Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 49 years. He was   currently serving as an elder and regular pioneer. William made good on his vow and maintained his integrity until his death on September 24, 2021.

William was preceded in death by his parents: John and Luecoster Chase; father and mother-in-law: James and Susie Cunningham; sister-in-law, Susan Cunningham; and special big sister, Maxine Galloway.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Carolyn; 3 Sons: William Terrell Chase (Tracilyn), of South Bend, IN; Marcus Chase (Dionna) of Hammond, IN; Michael Chase (Jessica) of Indianapolis, IN; 4 Daughters: Shannon Browley (Karl) of St. Louis, MO; Anita Thomas of Indianapolis, IN, Candice Mosby (Quentin, Sr.) of Indianapolis, IN; LaDonna Michelle Adams (Cornelius, Sr.) of Hammond, IN; 15 Grandchildren: Tamia, Joi, Natalie, Ciara, Arrick, Jaden, Greyson, Christopher, Tyrique, Quentin, Jr., MaKayla, Jeremiah, Amayia, Kaleal and Cornelius, Jr.; 2 Great-Grandchildren: Carolina and Acesohn; 6 Brothers: David Chase (Deloris), Larry Chase (Linda), McKinley Chase, John Chase, Jr, Derrick Chase (Lornnia) and  Vernell Chase (Sharon); 5 Sisters: Elaine Chase,  Barbara Perkins (Charles),  Irnell White (Barron), Terrie Lue Peavy (Michael) and Bennie Chase, 4 Sisters-in-laws: Saynora Hopson, Danette Richardson (Sylvester), Debra Brew (Rommey), and Angela Hall (Ronnie); a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Hey cousins and my beloved auntie. No amount of condolences will heal the void left by uncles death! I'm still processing it, the man I've known my entire life no longer with us. It's weird because of my upbringing and many condos with him. We will see him again soon! Love you all infinitely!
