— To Remember —

Billy Ray Moore

11/22/1948 — 02/10/2022

Billy Ray Moore was born on November 22, 1948 in Jackson, Mississippi to the union of Ishmond and Bernice Moore. He was the first child of five children.

Billy attended Froebel and Lincoln grammar School and graduated from Gary Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana in 1967. Upon graduation, he began working at Midwest Steel in Portage, Indiana. He was a very hard worker. However, with the Vietnam War raging, the matter of neutrality became a big issue. Prior to his baptism, he was a conscientious objector and was sent to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana to do alternative service. After serving in Indianapolis, he returned to Gary, to Midwest Steel and later US Steel, working as a Customer Service Representative. He would eventually retire from the steel mills after 39 years of service in 2010.

Billy dedicated his life to Jehovah God and symbolized his dedication through water baptism on November 27, 1976, becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. As he began to progress spiritually, he was appointed as a ministerial servant, and in time would go on to serve as an elder at the Gary Central Congregation in Indiana. Since he remained unmarried, he used this opportunity to reach out to help others. Thereafter, he was sent to serve as an elder at the Hammond Woodmar Congregation for many years, and presently served as an elder at the Glen Park Congregation in Merrillville, Indiana until his death.

On February 10, 2022, Billy fell asleep in death after a short illness. Billy’s fight is over. He stood steadfast in his faith (2 Timothy 2:7).  We look forward to the time when “all things will be made new” and welcoming him back in Paradise on earth (Revelation 21:4).

He was preceded in death by his father, Ishmond Moore.

Billy leaves to cherish his loving memories his mother, Bernice Moore: his siblings, Josie Allen, James (Shirley) Moore, Barbara (Sherman) Farley, and Calvin Moore; his nephews: Darian, Julian, Ryan, Bryan, and Justin Moore; his nieces: Toya Albertie, Tiffany Moore, and Nina Moore; aunts: Annie Jane Smith, Johnnie Smith, Gladys Rankin, and Mae Frances Moore; uncle, Sammie Lee Rankin; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
