Othello Levi Stokes

04/28/1939 — 03/11/2022

Othello Levi Stokes was born on April 28, 1939 to Rubin Levi Stokes and Fannie Alivia Robinson.

Othello graduated from high school at the age of 16. He attended Chicago State College for two years after which he went to work at the U.S. Post Office.

It was at the Post Office where he met the love of his life, his “beautiful wife” (as he fondly and often called her for 54 years) Joella (Jody). They later married and raised three children, Wonda, Lynne and Todd.

He served faithfully as a shepherd/elder of the Fernwood Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses until his death on March 11, 2022.

Preceding him in death were his parents Rubin Levi Stokes and Fannie Alivia Robinson, five brothers and three sisters: Arthur, Frank, Leroy, Elliot (a/k/a Spencer), Robert, Marie, Beverly Ann, and Dianna.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jody of 54 years; two daughters, Wonda (Ronnie), Lynne Trask; one son, Todd (Diandra); nine grandchildren, Kevin, Jaime, Rodney, Nemia, Maria, Maura, Ari, Ali, and Todd, Jr.; twelve great grandchildren, Ty, Jada, Jalin, Journey, Jonas, LaLani, Javian, Joella, Rodney III, Egypt, Eden, and Eva; one remaining sibling, Dr. Costello Stokes, brother-in-law Leon Williams and many nephews and nieces; the body of elders he served with; very special friends: Herbie and Debbie Jones; Doris and Jada Martin; Angela and Angelena Stanley; Paul, Linda, Sarah and Rachel Glenn; Home Healthcare providers and friends Mrs. Jessie Rainer, Mrs. Angela Effinger, and Lucille Boyd; those who took special training to help the family with Othello’s dialysis (Angelena Stanley, Jada Martin and Linda Glenn); Dave Stevenson who regularly volunteered his services; and Charles Franklin for his many, many years of selfless acts.

Brother Stokes had a Love for Jehovah and his Family, a Twinkle in his Eye, a Smile on his Face and a strong Faith in the Future.

Brother Stokes was the first person who greeted me my very first meeting at Fernwood, "Good afternoon I'm Brother Stokes, that's S-T-O-K-E-S" he had a bright & warm smile, he always had encouraging comforting words. My condolences to the entire family?
